Berbera – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), today officially inaugurated the Berbera Power Expansion Project. This strategic initiative represents a significant advancement in energy provision and economic development for the Sahil region, with particular focus on the city of Berbera.
The Berbera Power Expansion Project—comprising a 5WP PV Solar installation and an 11.2-kilometer 33KV power transmission line—marks the formal fulfillment of President Cirro’s commitment to delivering affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity to the residents of Berbera. The project is strategically designed to address the escalating energy demands of Berbera, which serves as the nation’s commercial nerve center.
In his address, the President underscored that dependable electricity infrastructure constitutes the fundamental foundation for investment attraction, industrial growth, public service delivery, and employment generation.
This initiative forms an integral component of the government’s broader strategy to reinforce economic infrastructure throughout the country, with strategic prioritization of key urban centers, thereby accelerating economic growth and fostering sustainable development.
